Knock Knock Jokes
We love our weekend adventures. To be honest, they're always the highlight of my week. So much about these adventures for me is just seeing the kids interacting with different people in a new environment, and by doing so, opening up a headspace where I can fully appreciate the seemingly inconsequential moments that exist in the days between. The irony is that, oftentimes, the event itself is not the main event, it's simply the conduit to experiencing the real gems; the fleeting gestures, the habits, the laughs, and the surprises.
Case in point. This weekend was Leif’s birthday weekend and we decided we wanted to see the Arts and Technology Festival at The Jepson Arts Center in Savannah. The exhibit was underwhelming, and what was advertised as a free event was free only for residents of Chatham County (we live in Bryan). No big deal. We had a fun time, and the kids enjoyed playing in interactive ArtZeum. But the best part of the day? Knock knock jokes. Felix's delivery of knock-knock jokes from the back seat of the car all the way to the gallery.
Felix: “Knock knock”
Us: “Who’s there?”
Felix: “Boo”
Us: “Boo-hoo”
Felix: “Don’t cry! It’s just a haircut!”
Followed by a dozen more, many of them with butchered punch lines, but the most perfect, comical delivery I’ve ever witnessed from a 4 year old. Leif and I were in tears by the time we reached the gallery.
We spend an inordinate amount of time preparing for these bigger events. It can be a ton of work just trying to get out of the house with two kids under 4, so yeah, sometimes I think it would be easier just to stay home. But then we might miss the punch line :-)
Here's a few pics from some recent adventures - today at the Jepson Center and last weekend's Family Day at Triple J Stables (Felix rode a horse for the very first time, and Freya discovered she's not scared of animals after all).
