A New Year... a new blog

Mandy and I have thought a lot about our social media footprint lately.  I have become more aware of my attachment to it in many ways. I find myself getting sucked into the perpetual scrolling or swiping at night, when I should be sleeping.  I have justified this by saying that I subscribe to a lot of progressive organizations on social media, and their daily posts keep me informed on issues that I care about.  While this is true, this is not why I am addicted to social media. I am addicted to that adrenaline spike and release of endorphins when I get likes or comments on something I've posted. I'll post something, and then within minutes I feel that tug to go check my "social currency." For Mandy and me, that addiction, masked as connection, is too costly for our family.

I'm sure many people have discussed or considered removing themselves from social media for similar reasons. We've always avoided this step with the excuse that so many of our friends and family use our profiles to stay updated on our lives and our children. Mandy and I had the idea to create a new family blog to document our adventures and keep you all apprised of our family's growth. We hope you enjoy these entries and that you stay in touch.

For our first post, we wanted to share with you a short film I made that documents our family's first adventure of the (almost) New Year. We finally got to take our kids to the Children's Museum of Indianapolis for the first time.  It has been a dream of mine since I was young, to be able to take my own family there one day. We had such a great time with Grandma, Grandpa, and Uncle Marten. It was a day we'll never forget. Enjoy!
